"A House You Can't Afford"
Five of us jammed into a two bedroom condo reminded me of the claustrophobic confines of a World War II diesel submarine. Having walked through many submarines but having never served on any such vessels, I noted that every square inch of space was employed, and some spaces served double use. Just so were we living as we prayed together daily to be shown a place to live. Then one morning during preparations for work I clearly heard -The-VOICE- say:
“A House You Can’t Afford”
When I heard that, I was looking in the mirror. The look of shock on my face is humorous to remember! I immediately walked into the bedroom to tell my wife what I had just heard. She looked at me and said “I heard the same thing”.
Note: Just two days (01-02-2017) ago the exact same thing happened for the benefit of a dear friend. Words with a second witness, all “in house”. Our marriage and partnership are truly blessed. Praise YAH.
…but back to ‘A house you can’t afford”. I have been blessed to own three houses, and I can tell you, and most would agree, that looking for a house one can’t afford is NOT how one looks for a house. On my daily six mile walk-‘n-Pray, I was constantly praying for understanding. Finally one day as I walked, in desperation I prayed” “Please give me at least a hint! Rent or own?” I immediately heard –The-VOICE- say:
After five months of diligent daily group home prayer, my wife showed me a house to rent. My first reaction was to go to prayer, not quite but almost complaining: “It’s too large, we don’t need that. Instantly I heard –The-VOICE- say:
“I’m giving this to you.”
As we moved in, it became very apparent that this house was not given to us for our pure use and enjoyment. It was given to us for HIS purpose. The phrase Luke 12:48 “…For anyone who is given much to him, much is required from him…” constantly goes through my mind; as does Isaiah 55:8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not my ways,” says Adonai. 9 “As high as the sky is above the earth are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
Indeed after years of watching YAH work, I now understand that we don’t need to know, we just need to be obedient. But still six months of looking for “a house you can’t afford” is an “adventure”. It was only as we moved in that I realized that alone there is no way I could afford this house. YAH put us together, a four generation household that individually none of us could afford, but together we enjoy from the very young to oldest pure joy, a gift from YAH. Praise HIS Set Apart NAME! WE are here for his reasons, not ours!
